World Reading Club (WRC):
Reading and Multilingualism Promotion Program
Reading is one of the most important habits we should develop and practice from childhood, throughout all stages of our lives, and in the various academic, social, and professional activities we undertake.
Reading allows access to knowledge in different areas and to national and universal literary heritage. Without reading, there is no knowledge, no literary culture, and the advancement of civilization, based on the dissemination of diverse knowledge and its continuous expansion through the contributions of each individual, is impossible.
The underdevelopment of countries is largely explained by deficiencies in their education systems, and within those systems, by the low reading comprehension levels of the population, especially the student body. This explains the consistently poor results obtained in the PISA reading proficiency tests, the difficulties in gaining university admission, and the low labor productivity. It is a universal truth: to progress and succeed, both individuals and countries need to be competitive, and this requires the necessary knowledge and skills, which depend on reading comprehension. Reading provides the necessary knowledge for all aspects of human, economic, and social activity. This is demonstrated by the countries with the highest development indices, which also stand out for the high levels of literacy among their populations.
Faced with this reality and the need to create and strengthen the reading habit among people, the World Reading Club is conceived as an educational and cultural program that seeks to facilitate permanent, universal and affordable access to works of social sciences (philosophy, economics, sociology, history…) and literature (short stories and novels, poetry, theater, chronicles, essays…) in order to promote and popularize reading, as a means to improve the educational and cultural level of people, and to strengthen their communication skills, key to integrating into society and to succeed in the modern global information community, interconnected in real time through the internet, which demands reading, processing and adequately analyzing large amounts of information on all aspects of human life.
Our Digital Library
To achieve its objectives, WRC has designed the digital library with more than 15.000 works of social sciences and literature in five languages (Spanish, English, French, Portuguese and Italian), used in more than 100 countries by more than 2 billion people, facilitating reading and multilingualism, strategic skills in the globalized world.
All 15.000 works are available in text format (Word), so our members can read and work with them immediately without needing adjustments or formatting changes, facilitating the work we need to do in our various activities (study, work, leisure, etc.).
WRC members have free access to the entire bibliographic collection and can read the works online on our website or download them to their PC, mobile phone, or tablet, making them available anytime, anywhere—a critical feature in areas with limited internet access and remote rural zones.
Each month, 50 new titles are added, totaling 600 books per year, expanding our members’ reading options across different languages, subject areas, and literary genres.
Economically, it is the best option on the market, making it accessible to everyone. With a six-month membership fee of only USD$50, you gain access to the 15.000 titles in the digital library, at a cost of just 0,3 cents per title. That means for just USD$1 you receive 300 titles—the most affordable library in the world.
With this, WRC helps overcome one of the biggest obstacles to reading: the high cost of books. And with the digital format, we provide universal and permanent access, benefiting users in urban and rural areas with limited internet coverage.
